kayipHe leans against the wall, his hands slipping into the pockets of his jacket.
"It's too soon."
She looks around to him. For some reason, he doesn't think the hijab looks natural on her. There's no reason why it shouldn't look fine, but to him the disguise seems obvious.
"It's been two months," she says quietly, looking back at the street again. There's a black car parked a little ways down, but aside from that, few cars have passed in the time they'd stood there. Waiting.
"This will expose them... it seems too soon..."
"Are you saying we should abort?"
He looks down at the sidewalk. "Then they'll know..."
"Yes. They will," she says shortly, and turns away from him again.
After a moment, though, she turns back again, and says, "You looked at those photos."
"Yeah."
"And you didn't recognize them."
"No."
She shrugs slightly. "Maybe they operate differently than your people did."
Pause. "Maybe."
However, now she seemed worried. It wasn't easy to tell, but he noticed her shift her weight as she peered down the street.
"You're going to look suspicious like that," he mumbles. She turns sharply.
"You don't think we already do?" He knows she's blaming him, and doesn't contest that. She looks down at her watch, then back at the street again.
"How long has that car been there?" she asks, her eyes moving to the black car parked on the side of the street.
"Before we were here," he murmurs.
She watches it for another moment.
"You think they'll believe me? I'm 17." Almost 18, actually.
"You look older than you are." Her eyes don't leave the car. Then, she takes a couple steps back.
"What?"
""Walk over there," she mumbles, gesturing to his left. "Normally."
He stands straight, then walks slowly in that direction. When he looks up, he notices a black van on the road. It's approaching.
"Abia-"
"We can't move," she whispers. He looks back, and she's staring into the car's windows. "Just stay where you are."
"It's too soon."
